Holland’s very own Roadburn Festival has become Europe’s leading underground festival for psychedelic, avant-garde, doom or any other variation of leftfield sonic pleasures that push the boundaries of music. My favourite place to be with my friends and discover new music. This year I got to bring my camera and I took some pictures of Cult of Luna, High on Fire and The Ocean Collective.
With the closing down of the LVC approaching later in 2013 (read more here), the Leiden metal scene wanted one last party to celebrate the existence of this venue. On 15 March the photo gallery Langharige Mannen opened in the attic, and Snowburner, Maid of Iron, Bliksem and Vanderbuyst got the crowd headbanging one last time. Read the full article here

Rock band Brad from Seattle had its first European tour in 2013, and played De Boerderij in Zoetermeer on 14 February. Band members and grunge legends Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam), Shawn Smith (Satchel, Malfunkshun), Keith Lowe (David Sylvian and many others) and Regan Hagar (Satchel, Malfunkshun) performed together musician Happy Chichester. Winterfest in The Hague Pop Centre is described as the remedy for the cold festival-less winter months. All stages and band practice rooms in HPC are used and performances lie between refined practice sessions and full concerts.
This fifth edition had some 50 acts playing with music styles ranging from blues, rock and soul to jazz, psychedelic and metal. A personal favourite was Birmingham Sunset with their classic metal covers. My contributions can be viewed in the following articles:

On 17 January psychedelic blues rock band DeWolff played LVC in Leiden. Their mixture of raw 60s sounds and fresh new melodies combined with an energetic stage appearance makes this evening into another great live experience for both audience and musicians. Read the full article here.
