As I have written in earlier blog posts, I am the photographer in a multimedia project called 'De Lesboeren' (previously dubbed 'Teachers of The Netherlands'). A lesboer is a Dutch nickname for a dull and uninspired teacher that won't engage with students outside of the curriculum. Of course, this project ridicules the nickname and aims to showcase incredible educators and their extracurricular experiences. My strive as a photographer is to portray the wide selection of teachers as the gladiators that they are, the movie stars in their classrooms.
Each teacher I meet speaks so passionate of the students and subjects they teach. Every school environment has its unique charm. These stories have fuelled my enthusiasm to portray the teachers authentically.
The first four portraits and podcast episodes are now available online, and a new portrait will be added every week. It is truly gratifying to see my photos accompanying these stories and receiving positive feedback from the community. I hope that by sharing these experiences, we are creating a legacy that honours the remarkable work of teachers everywhere.
